Pietermaritzburg has to be one of the most overlooked cities in KZN so it’s amazing to see great events happening and people from the city doing great things. We had a chat with one of the founders of PULM, which is probably the biggest lifestyle market’s to have come out of PMB.
Njabulo Njure Ngubane, Nelisa Ngubane and Sandile Bhengu started The Pop Up Lifestyle Market back in 2009, with the aim to promote local business, in food, fashion, arts and crafts, photography and music. The market is held every six weeks at the Alexandria Skate Park in Pietermaritzburg, which is their local skate park where some of the cool kids hang.
Nelisa says, “PULM’s main focus is to give exposure to the small businesses and provide them with an immediate clientele.” This goal has definitely been met, as the market has grown in numbers with more and more people attending and with businesses from around KZN being a part of it.
The market has managed to give exposure to a lot of local music artists through playing their music at the market and also local magazines featuring the event and the cool skaters.
Thanks to Pulm a lot of local businesses have been exposed to a more larger audience and they have also brought the community together like never before. Nelisa believes the market is going to really grow in numbers and more businesses wanting to be a part of it. She’s also very happy that they have managed to build a culture in PMB that bring people together
